Worcester’s Top 10 Taxpayers Account For Nearly $50 Million

Worcester's largest taxpayers are once again dominated by utility companies, hospitals and major commercial property owners.

WORCESTER, MA — Worcester’s largest taxpayers are once again dominated by utility companies, hospitals and major commercial property owners, according to the city’s proposed Fiscal Year 2027 operating budget released Friday.

The city’s top 10 taxpayers are expected to contribute a combined $49.6 million in property taxes this fiscal year, highlighting the outsized role a handful of companies play in Worcester’s tax base.

Leading the list is New England Power – Mass Electric, which is projected to pay nearly $18 million in taxes alone, according to the Fiscal Year 2027 Annual Operating Budget.

Eversource ranked second at more than $12.2 million.

Together, the top two utility companies account for more than $30 million in tax revenue for the city.

Healthcare and commercial real estate companies also featured prominently on the list. VHA Acquisition Subsidiary, which is the legal entity that owns and operates Saint Vincent Hospital, ranked third at more than $5.3 million.

Worcester TC LLC, NEP – National Grid and Verizon rounded out the next three spots.

The city’s proposed budget comes as Worcester continues to see major development activity, particularly in the Canal District and along key commercial corridors.

Here are Worcester’s top 10 taxpayers for Fiscal Year 2027, according to the proposed city budget:

  2. NStar Gas Co./Eversource — $12,224,397
  3. VHA Acquisition Subsidiary — $5,347,999
  4. Worcester TC LLC — $2,721,172
  5. NEP – National Grid — $2,420,559
  6. Verizon — $2,221,242
  7. Agree Limited Partnership — $1,884,247
  8. 440 Lincoln Street Holding — $1,842,738
  9. Front Street Associates LLC — $1,665,972
  10. MC Roseland Worcester, LLC — $1,321,411

The proposed budget will now move through the City Council review process before a final spending plan is adopted later this year.
