Worcester Sees Fewer Shootings And More Arrests, Crime Report Shows
Worcester's midyear crime statistics show total incidents remained above the five-year average.
WORCESTER, MA — Worcester’s midyear crime statistics show declines in several violent crime and property crime categories, even as total incidents remained above the five-year average.
Through June, Worcester recorded 70,833 total incidents, down 3.13 percent from the same period in 2025 but up 7.22 percent from the previous five-year average, according to Worcester police statistics released on Monday. Arrests rose to 2,185, up 22.75 percent from 2025 and 53.2 percent above the five-year average.
The city recorded three homicides through June, compared with two during the same period in 2025 and a five-year average of five. Aggravated assaults fell to 315, down 7.89 percent from 2025 and 9.38 percent below the five-year average.
Nonfatal shooting incidents dropped from eight in 2025 to three in 2026, while nonfatal shooting victims fell from nine to three. Reported gunshots decreased to 151, down 22.16 percent from 2025 and 49.26 percent below the five-year average.
Robberies also declined, falling to 51 from 72 in 2025. Stabbings and slashings decreased slightly, from 34 to 32.
Property crime categories were also down compared with 2025. Breaking and entering fell from 202 to 168, motor vehicle thefts dropped from 202 to 181, larcenies from motor vehicles declined from 381 to 285 and vandalism fell from 479 to 430.
Some other categories increased. Calls for service rose 20.11 percent from 2025, traffic accidents increased 9.7 percent and noise disturbances rose 3.57 percent.
The statistics cover year-to-date totals through June and compare 2026 with annual midyear figures from 2021 through 2025.
