WORCESTER, MA — Family of 21-year-old Suheill Ortiz, who was fatally shot at Worcester residence Tuesday morning after a night out, are hoping the community will help put to rest a woman they say was a great mother, daughter, sister and friend.

"We know (the) holidays are around the corner (and) we can never predict what will happen tomorrow but any little bit counts," said Ortiz's family on a GoFundMe page started this week to help pay for funeral expenses. "We will miss her so much and we will keep her in our memories and hearts forever. We pray everyone can participate to put her to rest."

Shortly before 1:30 a.m. Tuesday, police responded to 15 Oread St. for a report of a shooting. When they arrived, they found Ortiz suffering from a gunshot wound. Ortiz was transported to a nearby hospital where she died.

Police arrested 37-year-old Djarflo Irving Tuesday night in connection with the shooting. He was taken into custody on charges of manslaughter, carrying a firearm without a license, and possession of ammunition without a license.
