Worcester Staples Location Closing This Week

The Framingham-based company did not say if any other stores in Massachusetts are closing.

WORCESTER, MA — A Staples store in Worcester at the Lincoln Plaza shopping center will close this week, the Framingham-based company confirmed on Tuesday.

The store at 541 Lincoln St. will close on Oct. 16, a spokesperson said. The company did not say if any other stores in Massachusetts will be closing.

The company didn't name a reason why the Worcester store is closing, except that the retailer "continually monitor[s]" the performance of individual stores. The only other recent Staples closing was in September in Paso Robles, Calif., according to news reports.

"Our business is evolving alongside the customer," a Staples spokesperson said in a statement. "We continually monitor the performance of Staples stores across the country to ensure we’re meeting our customers where they want to be met. We remain committed to supporting lifelong achievement for small businesses, and to supporting parents, teachers and students as they continue this different back to school season."

There are two remaining Staples locations near Worcester along Route 9 in Shrewsbury and along Southbridge Street across from the Auburn Mall.

The Lincoln Plaza shopping center contains several large anchor stores, including a Lowe's, Target and Stop & Shop.
