Worcester, State Police Chase Man Who Broke Into Shoe Store

After the man fled in a car, Worcester police chased him down Route 146 before state police joined along the Mass Pike.

WORCESTER, MA — A police chase along local highways that ended in Southborough began early Friday morning after a break-in at a Worcester at the Shoe Supply store along Pleasant Street.

The break-in happened around 2:15 a.m. Friday, according to state police. Worcester police began to pursue the man after he fled the store in a Mercedes sedan. Worcester officers continued the chase onto Route 146 southbound.

State police joined the pursuit when the man headed eastbound on the Mass Pike. State troopers deployed a spike strip in Southborough, disabling the man's car. He ditched the car and ran into the woods between the highway and Cordaville Road (Route 85).

State police used a helicopter with an infrared camera to find the man, who had climbed about 30 feet into a tree. When police arrived, the man climbed down and was arrested.

Worcester police are pursuing commercial breaking and entering charges, according to state police.
