The 32-year-old Democrat is running for reelection in 2022 to the 17th Worcester state House seat. Earlier this year, he was a seen as a potential candidate to replace retiring state Sen. Harriette Chandler, but he committed to running for reelection in February. No other Republicans or Democrats had signed up to run for the 17th Worcester seat as of Wednesday afternoon.
Asked for a reaction to the incident, state House Speaker Ron Mariano told Patch on Wednesday he would support LeBoeuf's journey seeking help for substance abuse.
"Driving under the influence is a dangerous and often deadly mistake, and I am deeply relieved that no one was injured in this instance. I have been assured by Representative LeBoeuf that he will be seeking help and I will support him on his path to recovery," Mariano said.
In a series of tweets Wednesday, the state Republican party highlighted that LeBoeuf had voted on a state budget about 90 minutes before police pulled him over. The Republicans also demanded that Mariano ask for LeBeouf's resignation.
