Worcester Theater Union Official Sentenced For Embezzlement

The man is embezzled approximately $37,000 while acting as business agent and treasurer of the union.

WORCESTER, MA — A former union official in Worcester was sentenced on Friday for embezzling $37,000. Ivar Carlson was the treasurer and business agent for the Local B-395 of the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees in Worcester, where he embezzled thousands.

Carlson was sentenced to one year of probation, and ordered to pay $9,786.20 in restitution.

According to the Department of Justice, from 2007 through 2016, Carlson regularly wrote checks to cash from the Local’s bank account and then used that cash for his own personal enrichment.

On top of is sentence, the Court ordered forfeiture in the amount of $16,151.20. Assistant U.S. Attorney John T. Mulcahy of Lelling’s Worcester Branch Office is prosecuting the case.
