Worcester To Treat Indian Lake On Tuesday
The city is warning Lake users to stay out of the water while the treatment happens.
WORCESTER, MA — The city is warning swimmers, boaters and lake user to stay out of Indian Lake on Tuesday. The city is treating the water to control the growth of harmful, toxin-producing algae in the lake.
Not only swimmers and boaters, but pets should stay out of the water as well. Aluminum sulfate also known as alum, will be applied to the water and is common in many municipalities to keep lakes healthy. The risk to humans and animals is minimal after the application is done, according to the city.
The application is coordinated with the Indian Lake Watershed Association and has been approved by the Worcester Conservation Commission.
Beaches will be posted after the application. The water will be safe to swim in on Wednesday, June 12.
