WORCESTER, MA — The downtown branch of the Worcester Public Library system will partially reopen for public use in February following system-wide closures due to coronavirus increases.

Starting Feb. 1, patrons will be able to make appointments to visit the main library branch, 3 Salem St., for computer access. All of Worcester's libraries closed to the public in December, although all branches are open for pickup service.

The main library's partial reopening coincides with the reopening of Worcester City Hall on Monday for appointments, and Gov. Charlie Baker's lifting of a statewide order requiring most businesses to close by 9:30 p.m.

The library is also expanding its "bundles" program to include laptops and WiFi hotspots. Patrons will now be able to check out both items at once.

"The Library is eager and excited to begin welcoming patrons back into the library as soon, and as safely, as possible," Worcester Public Library Executive Director Jason Homer said in a news release. "We continue to offer a robust array of services and are committed to keeping patrons connected to all library branches during this challenging time."
