Worcester's Weekend Weather: Severe Thunderstorms, With Wind and Lightning, Possible

We need the rain, and more is probably coming this weekend.

WORCESTER, MA—The clouds are planning to roll in during the day on Friday, increasing their presence into the evening to potentially drop a whole lot of rain on the area by Saturday.

A hazardous outlook statement issued by the National Weather Service, indicated scattered strong to severe thunderstorms possible for late Saturday morning through early Saturday evening throughout most of Massachusetts, including Worcester County.

The primary threat, according to the NWS, will be locally strong to damaging straight line wind gusts, and heavy rainfall may result in very localized urban street flooding.

"While strong severe thunderstorms are possible across the entire region, the highest risk will be in areas south of the Massachusetts Turnpike," said the NWS.

Here's the forecast, via NWS:

Friday: Sunny, with a high near 86.

Tonight: Increasing clouds, with a low around 66.

Saturday: Showers and thunderstorms likely in the afternoon. Some of the storms could produce gusty winds, heavy rain, and frequent lightning. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 86.

Saturday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 64.

Sunday: Sunny, with a high near 83.

Sunday Night: Mostly clear, low around 62.
