WORCESTER, MA — With talk of snow and record-breaking cold temperatures in the forecast, keep in mind that the city of Worcester is hiring for public works and parks department jobs this winter.

Worcester will host two "opportunity fairs" this week so job-seekers can learn how to apply for positions in both departments. The fairs will both be held at the Worcester Senior Center, 128 Providence St. The Nov. 13 session runs 5:30 to 7 p.m., and the Nov. 16 event from 10 a.m. to noon.

Here's more from the city Human Resources Department:

As part of the City Manager’s objective to increase diversity and opportunities throughout
the City, we have decided to have general fairs for all city jobs and focus on specific areas that have difficulty hiring qualified candidates due to the low amount of candidates overall.

This will be the third DPW specific recruitment event and the past two were successful.
This Open House will start with a presentation from the Chief Diversity Officer and
Human Resources with an overview of City benefits and application information, followed by the Personnel Manager in DPW who will provide detailed information on the variety of work in the various divisions followed by representatives from each division.

Bringing City opportunities to different neighborhoods in the City is part of a comprehensive recruitment strategy to engage underrepresented populations for employment in the City of Worcester. The next event will be held in January 2020 to recruit candidates for the next Fire Civil Service Exam.

These events will also feature representatives from Mass Hires and Jobs Training who will provide information on CDL license training and resume writing resources. Members of the CAC will also be available to provide application information for the City’s boards and commissions.
