A time capsule will be buried on site. Celebrate and honor World War II veterans with this new memorial on Worcester Common.

WORCESTER, MA—This weekend, Worcester celebrates a new memorial erected to honor World War II veterans.
On Saturday, June 4, beginning at 11:30 a.m. on Worcester Common, the city hosts a celebration of this new WWII memorial located behind City Hall.
Speakers lead a program and dedication starting at noon, and a time capsule, which holds letter from WWII veterans collected over the past year, as well as various mementoes from Worcester's past, will be buried on the site.
The memorial, designed by Weston & Sampson Engineering, features 78 new water jets: two large jets for the two main theaters of World War II, six medium sized jets for the six military branches and 68 smaller jets for the 679 Worcester residents who died in the war. It also features two granite piers engraved with the names of Worcester residents who were either killed or missing in action during WWII, as well as info kiosks.
The free celebration also includes a flyover of a Corsair plane and Stearman plane, music by the Worcester Youth Orchestra, a performance by the Fred Astaire Dance Studio, and free photos.
