Bill Would Help Communities Improve Water, Sewer Infrastructure
Senate leaders on Beacon Hill have presented a proposal to help local communities borrow money to fix aging systems.

State leaders haveย presented a plan that would increase the amount that communities can borrow through low-interest loans from the stateโs Water Pollution Abatement Trustย to repair drinking and wastewater systems.
According to Associated Press, a 2012 report found that the commonwealth โis facing a shortfall of approximately $21 billion over the next two decades to keep driving and wastewater systems in a state of adequate repair."
Sponsors of the legislation said the legislation would create a โleak classification systemโ to alert communities of โhigh-hazard leaks,โ while also pushing for more โgreenโ water projects.
