WRENTHAM, MA – A Norfolk man has been charged with drunk driving in a crash involving a Wrentham police cruiser early Saturday morning. Shortly after 12 a.m. on Aug. 26, an officer was driving down Taunton Street toward Route 1 when a car traveling the opposite way turned left toward Beach Street in its path, police said.

The cruiser collided with the car and struck a utility pole. The officer was able to free himself and check on the driver of the other vehicle, according to police. Once additional officers responded, he was transported to the hospital and treated for minor injuries.

The driver of the other car, John Robbins, 29, of Norfolk, was not injured. He was arrested at the scene and charged with operating under the influence of alcohol and cited for improper turning.
