Franklin Student Missing

Michael Doherty, of Franklin, went missing Sunday. Doherty, 20, attends Duke University. Call police at 508-528-1212 with information.

FRANKLIN, MA — The search for 20-year-old Michael Doherty enters its third day Tuesday as officials have found new evidence, including clothing and shoes, in the area where he was last seen. Reports say it is unclear if the clothing belongs to Doherty. The Franklin man was last seen in the Phyllis Lane area around 1:30 a.m. Sunday morning.

Doherty is 5 feet, 10 inches and has brown hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing a blue T-shirt with a Nike symbol, black pants and sneakers. Doherty is a student at Duke University.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Franklin police at 508-528-1212.

"We urge you to check the area outside your residence including any sheds or detached buildings and call the Franklin (police) ... if you have any information," Franklin police said in a statement. "Please be advised during this time you may see increased public safety presence in the area."

On Monday morning, a helicopter and boat were used during the search, according to WBZ's Anna Meiler. State police and the Southeastern Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council's search and rescue team were also involved in the search.

Doherty attended Xaverian Brothers High School and graduated in 2015. School officials on Monday said they are "praying for Michael's safe return to his family."
