Will he or won't he?
While it's early in the 2016 presidential campaign cycle, Wrentham's Scott Brown showed up at Iowa State Fair last weekend, professed his love of the midwest and then he delivered the shot heard round the political cycle.
The former United States Senator said he is exploring a possible run at being President of the United States in 2016.
He also been linked to a possible run for Massachusetts Governor or even running the United States Senate from New Hampshire where he owns a home.Since then Brown has been getting a lot of advice of whether the "Brown for President" signs should be ordered at the printer.
His friend Howie Carr of the Boston Herald urged Brown to focus on Beacon Hill. Carr and Brown team up a book signing events.
'Beam yourself home, Scottie," urged Carr. "You can run for president. You can get another $1.7 million book advance. But first you need to get elected to something..ain't in president."
On the other side of the "run or don't run" debate is former Massachusetts governor William Weld, who said he would vote for Brown for president in a myfoxboston interview."I think the message of inclusion and working across the isle appears to people," he said.
The Washington Post wrote Brown shouldn't consider a run for president, even outlining a four reason why not to do it.We have written and continue to believe that Brown’s best option BY FAR is to run for governor next year, since Massachusetts voters have shown a willingness — or even a bent — to put Republicans in the governor’s mansion.
Brown should think carefully about what race he chooses next; losing two contests in a row is a death knell for his political career," wrote the Washington Post.
Both CNN and the Christian Science Monitor said there were no harm for Brown to visit Iowa and talk about a presidential run.
"The truth is that in today's media environment, there's almost no downside for a long-shot "candidate" like Brown to tell people he's mulling a White House run. For someone with no real perch other than a paid gig at Fox News, it actually makes a lot of sense," wrote CNN.
The Christian Monitor quoted Ford O'Connell, the chairman of the CivicForumPAC about Brown's possible run
.“Having all the viewpoints in there is good,” said O’Connell. “It does not mean everyone who’s in it is in it to win it. But I think he is, on the one hand, doing the party a service. The question is: How far does he push what appears, right now, to be nothing more than a publicity stunt.”
Well, that's what people outside of Wrentham think, but what does Brown's neighbors think he should do?
1. Scott Brown for president in 2016
2. Scott Brown for Massachusetts Governor 2014
3. Forget about it and stay out of the campaigns.
