Kennedy, Langley Take Wrentham Selectmen Race

The town Board of Selectmen will be welcoming a new member at its meeting tonight.

Finance Committee member Charles Kennedy and Selectmen incumbent Stephen Langley won a three-way race for two seats Monday.

Langley received the most votes, with 611, and Kennedy was second with 581. Challenger George Smith received 357 votes.

Kennedy said he was very excited to be a member of the board.

"I'm looking forward to the next three years," he said. "I hope to help move the town forward."

Langley was also pleased with the tally.

"I like the direction the board has taken, and I want to continue with it," he said. "I'm thankful and humbled, and I'm very much looking forward to continuing."

He said he believed Kennedy would serve well as a board member.

"I think he'll be an excellent addtion to the board," he said. "I think he'll contribute to the board's cohesiveness."

Smith expressed disappointement at the result.

"There are other things I could've done," he said. "The important thing is I feel headway has been made on the issues I ran on."

Smith said he would continue to advance such issues as selling water and improving the town's streetlight system.
