MCAS Scores Show King Philip High School Students Out Performing State

The results of the spring 2013 MCAS are in, with most students in the district scoring better than others in the state.

Overall the percentage of King Philip School District students who scored proficient or higher was 90 percent, compared to 91 percent last year. The percentage of King Philip students who scored proficient or higher in math was the same in 2013 as 2012 with 69 percent. In science and technology, 64 percent of all KP district students scored proficient or higher compared to last year’s 70 percent.

The majority of King Philip High School 10th grade students placed in the advanced category. Overall, Sixty one percent placed in the category for English, compared to the state’s 45 percent. In mathematics, 60 percent scored as advanced against the state’s 55 percent. In science and technology, 49 percent of the district scored in the advanced category with the state coming in at 26 percent. 

King Philip Middle School students did not do as well as those at the high school level with the majority of students performing at the proficient level. In most cases, they still outscored others in the state. Twenty one percent of 7th grade students placed in the advanced category against the state’s 12 percent. Sixty four percent of district 7th grade students placed in proficient with the state coming in at 59 percent. In mathematics, 29 percent of King Philip 7th graders fell into advanced compared to the state’s 19 percent. Forty percent of KP 7th graders scored proficient against the state’s 33 percent.

Eighth grade English scores found 25 percent of students in the district placing in the advanced category and 64 percent in proficient. The state scored 20 percent and 58 percent, respectively. In mathematics, the district tied with the state at 22 percent, while 34 percent of KP eighth graders scored proficient against the state’s 32 percent. In science and technology 3 percent of district students scored in advance while 45 percent were deemed proficient. The state scored 4 percent and 35 percent respectively.
