There will be a new look to the King Philip High football schedule this fall.
With the new Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association's playoffs, the Warriors don't have opponents scheduled for early November yet.Β
That has been left open for the playoffs, which the Warriors hope to be part of. If they aren't part of it, games will be scheduled for King Philip with other non-playoff teams.Β
The playoffs and remaining games will be decided at the end of the seventh week of the season.Β Another big change is that Warriors will now be playing rival Franklin twice, Oct. 11 at home and Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 28, at Franklin.
The Warriors are in Division 2 South along with Barnstable, Braintree, Durfee, Duxbury, Mansfield, Marshfield, Natick, Needham, Quincy, Taunton and Wellesley. Division 2 is the favorite pick as the top division, because of the success the teams in the division have had in recent times.
According to schedules published in the Boston Herald, the Warriors will open up the season Sept. 7 with a nonleague game at Middleboro with a 1 p.m. start. They will follow that up with the first home game of the season against Westwood, Sept. 13 at 7 p.m.
After the Warriors will go into their Hockomock League Large-School Division portion of the schedule, traveling to Taunton, Sept. 27.
King Philip will follow that up with four home games in a row, North Attleboro, Oct. 4, Franklin, Oct. 11, Mansfield, Oct. 18 and Attleboro, Oct. 25. All games start at 7 p.m.
All dates and times are subject to change.
