Wrentham Education Series Events Will Discuss Healthcare, Social Media, Substance Abuse

WRENTHAM, MA — The King Philip Regional School District, the Norfolk Public Schools, the Plainville Public Schools and the Wrentham Public Schools will continue their wellness education series for parents and guardians this week.

On Wednesday, Feb. 26, a presentation titled “Making Sense of Healthcare Financing” will take place at the Beatrice H. Wood Elementary School, 72 Messenger St., Plainville, starting at 6:30 p.m.

The presentation will provide an overview of MassHealth programs with an emphasis on CommonHealth and pathways to eligibility, access to benefits and services and healthcare costs and recent insurance coverage changes in the state for behavioral health services for children for both private and public insurance.

The presentation is intended for parents of children up to age 19. Childcare registration can be completed here.

The speaker will be Patricia Nemia, the Project Director of Massachusetts Family Voices and the Family-to-Family Health Information Center at the Federation for Children with Special Needs. Nemia has several years of experience in healthcare as a physical therapist, educator and administrator.

The presentation will also be held Wednesday, March 18 at 6:30 p.m. at the Freeman-Kennedy School, 70 Boardman St., Norfolk. Childcare registration can be completed here.

A presentation, “Substance Use in Our Community,” will take place Wednesday, March 4, at King Philip Regional High School, 201 Franklin St., Wrentham, starting at 6:30 p.m. The event is hosted by the Healthy KP Substance Use Prevention Coalition & S.A.F.E Coalition. Jon Mattleman, a mental health counselor and speaker with over 35 years of experience, will present “The Secret Lives of Teens and Tweens” on Tuesday, April 7. The presentation will take place at 7 p.m. at King Philip Regional Middle School, 18 King St., Norfolk. This event will be funded through a grant from the KyleCares Foundation.

Linda Price, an adjustment counselor, psychologist, yoga instructor and Social-Emotional Learning/mindfulness consultant with 25 years of experience, will present “Social Emotional Learning and Mindfulness for Parenting” through the non-profit organization Minding Your Mind, on Wednesday, April 15. The presentation will take place at 7 p.m. at the Beatrice H. Wood Elementary School. This event will be funded through a grant from the KyleCares Foundation.

On Wednesday, May 6, Susan Reynolds will be leading a presentation titled “Social Media’s Impact on Mental Health: Optimizing the Connection.” Reynolds has more than 20 years of experience in digital well-being, mindfulness and youth leadership. The presentation will take place at 7 p.m. at King Philip Regional Middle School.
