Wrentham Selectmen Talk American Legion Compliance

Selectmen vote to send letter to American Legion Post 225 about alcohol compliance checks.

The town of Wrentham will ask the local American Legion post to allow access more quickly to police liquor license compliance checks.

The matter was raised at Tuesday's Board of Selectmen meeting. The police reportedly received an anonymous letter about violations at the post.

Police Chief James Anderson said response time was an issue with the post.

"The problem we have is that we can't do compliance checks," Anderson said. "Officers ring the bell, say who they are, and it takes them 10 to 15 minutes to answer the door."

Board Chairman Joseph Botaish said he agreed that prompt access should be allowed to police.

Selectman Stephen Langley said the fact that the letter was sent anonymously was "disconcerting."

Botaish agreed.

"The reason I support sending a letter is that police can't do compliance checks," he said. "What I'm supporting is [police] access; this [anonymous] letter is worthless to me."

The board voted to send a letter to the post about the matter.
