10 Inches Of Snow Possible In Parts Of MI; Mostly Rain In Detroit Area

A late-season winter storm could dump up to 10 inches of snow in northern Michigan on Saturday, according to the National Weather Service.

MICHIGAN — A late-season winter storm could dump up to 10 inches of snow in northern Michigan on Saturday, while most of southern Michigan will see a mix of rain and snow, according to the National Weather Service.

Areas around Traverse City in the northwestern part of Michigan could see up to 10 inches of snow Saturday, while areas around Cadillac could see at least 6 inches of snow, the weather service said.

Parts of the Saginaw Valley, particularly the northern region could also see some snow accumulations mixed with rain Saturday, the weather service said.

Most of southeast Michigan, including the metro Detroit area will see rain with occasional light snow showers Friday night into Saturday morning before temperatures warm into the 50s, the weather service said.

Freezing rain is possible in areas between Interstate 96 and Michigan 20 that could cause power outages, the weather service said. Forecasters said areas south of Interstate 96 will see mostly rain.

Strong winds with gusts reaching 50 miles per hour will also sweep through southeast Michigan on Saturday, the weather service said.
