$15 Minimum Wage In MI Will Be On 2024 Ballot

A proposal seeking to raise Michigan's minimum wage to $15 per hour by 2027 will be on the ballot in 2024, according to One Fair Wage.

MICHIGAN — Voters will have the opportunity in November 2024 to eventually raise Michigan's minimum wage to $15 per hour, according to One Fair Wage.

The Michigan Bureau of Elections approved the ballot measure to appear on the ballot in November 2024 after more than 610,000 petition signatures were submitted in 2022, according to the group.

If passed, the proposal would raise Michigan's minimum wage (which is currently $10.10) by $1 a year until it reaches $15 per hour in 2027. After 2027, the wage would then update annually based on the inflation, bypassing the need for any future legislation, according to the group.

The measure would also phase out the subminimum wage system for tipped workers, youth workers and workers with disabilities, according to the group.

For tipped workers, who currently make $3.84 per hour, would eventually make $15 per hour by 2028, according to the group.

"In a climate where cities like Chicago are abolishing the subminimum wage for tipped workers, Michigan’s proposition to standardize fair pay is not just crucial, it’s urgent," President of One Fair Wage Saru Jayaraman said.
