8 MI Breweries Compete in Great American Beer Festival

MICHIGAN — Eight Michigan breweries will be competing in the Great American Beer Festival to be held Oct. 10-12 in Denver.

The festival is the nation’s largest for professional brewers and hands out some of the industry’s most sought-after accolades. Bronze, silver and gold medals will be awarded for dozens of styles of beer and ciders in more than 100 categories.

Beer is still the star of the competition, but organizers are casting a wider net with the addition of categories for ciders, canned cocktails, hard seltzer, hard soda, hard tea, hard kombucha, other malt-based beverages, and all non-alcoholic beverages.

The event also features competition in ciders, hard seltzers and, new this year, canned cocktails and hard teas.

Here are the eight Michigan breweries competing for medals:

• Orange Push-Up - 7.4 percent ABV
• Juice Weasel - 6.7 percent ABV
• Resting Peach Face - 6.2 percent ABV
• Breakfast in Maui - 9.7 percent ABV

Brewery Vivant & Broad Leaf Brewery, Grand Rapids:

• Peach Farm Hand - 5.5 percent ABV
• Pumpkin Bread Saison - 6.0 percent ABV
• Chromatic Shatter - 5.2 percent ABV
• Cult Pilsner - 5.0 percent ABV

Dearborn Brewing, Dearborn:

• Model IP "A" - 6.3 percent ABV
• Pallin Arsons Project Hazy - 6.5 percent ABV
• Frau Blue Hair German Lager - 5.25 percent ABV
• Kolsch Comfort - 4.7 percent ABV

Harmony Brewing Company, Grand Rapids:

• Lovely Day IPA - 6.5 percent ABV
• Black Squirrel Peat Smoked Porter - 7.5 percent ABV
• Pcherrydactyl Cherry Kettle Sour - 8 percent ABV
• Peaches and Cream Kettle Sour - 5 percent ABV
• Luscious Lion Hazy IPA - 7.85 percent ABV

• Gambling With the Knuckle Bones of Wolves - 10.7 percent ABV
• The Death of the Fat King - 10.2 percent ABV
• Czech the Turn - 4.4 percent ABV

River's Edge Brewing Co, Milford:

• Kolsch - 5.3 percent ABV
• Spiders From Märzen - 5.8 percent ABV
• Dirty Frank Stout - 6.9 percent ABV
