Aldi Opening New Metro Detroit Store, 1 Other MI Location: Report

The two new stores come as the grocer plans to open 180 stores across 31 states in 2026.

Aldi will open two new Michigan stores this year, including one in metro Detroit, the Detroit Free Press reports.

Aldi Regional Vice President Ryan Fritsch told the outlet one store will open in Southfield sometime this spring, while the other will open in Lowell later this year.

The two new stores come as the grocer plans to open 180 stores across 31 states in 2026. That will get them to nearly 2,800 stores, pushing them closer to their goal of 3,200 stores across the nation by the end of 2028.

"One in three U.S. households shopped at ALDI this past year, and in 2026 we’re focused on making it even easier for customers to shop our aisles first," ALDI U.S. CEO Atty McGrath said. "That means bringing ALDI to even more neighborhoods, upgrading our website and planning additional distribution centers to keep our shelves stocked with the products our shoppers love."

Aldi added eight new stores in Michigan in 2025. Those locations were in Hillsdale, Davison, Flat Rock, Whitehall, Rochester Hills, Niles, Grand Haven and Taylor.
