A new Google search data study shows the most misspelled words across the nation.
In Michigan, that word is "which." Michigan was the only state to see the word "which" as its most misspelled word.
While that may come as shocking, I guess it's important to note that "which" is a homophone, though Michiganders should know when to be talking about a "witch."
Unscramblerer.com conducted the study, which was based on an analysis of Google search data from Jan. 1 through May 18 of this year.
"Analyzing America’s list of most misspelled words for 2026, we found silent letters, irregular vowel sounds, tricky suffixes, difficult consonant blends, schwa sounds, weird double letters, French and Spanish loanwords that break every phonics rule," a spokesperson from Unscramblerer said. "English spelling and pronunciation is often irregular."
The study comes just days before nine Michigan students are set to compete at the Constitution Hall in Washington, D.C. for the annual Scripps Spelling Bee.
