A popular northern Michigan state has been voted among the best in the nation, according to a USA TODAY 10BEST ranking.
The Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park, which sits along the Lake Superior shoreline, earned the No. 9 spot in the ranking.
The "Porkies" are best known for their roaring waterfalls, rivers and trails, making it one of the most popular travel destinations for campers, hikers, snowmobilers and others.
"The Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park, also known as the "Porkies," encompasses 60,000 acres of lakes, rivers, and virgin forest. The park offers camping on the shores of Lake Superior, 90 miles of hiking trails, seasonal kayak rentals, mountain biking, and, in the winter, access to the Porcupine Mountain Winter Sports Complex," USA Today said.
