8 Family Members, Including 6 Children, Found Dead After MI House Fire: Reports

OTTAWA COUNTY, MI — Eight members of a family, including six children, were found dead Friday after firefighters responded to a house fire in western Michigan, where authorities said some of the victims were found with gunshot wounds, according to multiple reports.

Police and firefighters responded shortly before noon to a house fire in Grand Haven Township, about 25 miles west of Grand Rapids, ABC News and The Associated Press reported, citing Capt. Jacob Sparks of the Ottawa County Sheriff's Office.

Once inside the home, authorities discovered the bodies of two adults and six children, reports said. The children were between the ages of 5 and 15.

Authorities have not released the victims' names or determined their official causes of death. Reports said some of the victims had gunshot wounds, though investigators have not disclosed how many.

Investigators are treating the fire as suspicious and believe it may have been intentionally set.

Authorities said they are not searching for an outside suspect, according to reports. One of the theories under investigation is a possible murder-suicide, though officials cautioned it is too early to draw conclusions while autopsies and forensic testing continue.

Michigan State Police arson investigators are assisting with the investigation.
