A Child is Waiting: Kakashi Finds Joy in Every Breeze and in Noticing the Simple Things

There's not much that fifteen-year-old Kakashi enjoys more than a bit of wind: feeling it on his face as he sails down a trail on his bike or wrapping one of his many flags around the pole and watching them wave and unfurl.

"Kakashi is very sweet, silly, and caring," his caring adult says. "He truly enjoys the simple things in life, both indoors and outside."

Kakashi is an excellent bike rider who loves riding on trails.

"He will gladly ride ten miles every day!" says his carer.

He also loves animals – especially dogs – and swimming, boating, swinging, jumping on the trampoline, working with drones, participating in Special Olympics, and playing with other kids. He loves gym work, and he gets to do it twice a day.

"Playing ball with the dog is one of his favorite things – they tire each other out!" his carer laughs."

Inside, Kakashi enjoys listening to music, bouncing ping pong balls, playing with slime, watching movies and YouTube, using educational apps on his tablet, and playing dominoes with someone.

"He likes to watch people draw," adds his caring adult, "and he likes to direct the shapes they make."

Kakashi loves riding the bus to his school program as well as taking other rides.

"He has a great sense of direction," his carer chuckles, "and can be a true back-seat driver! Once, while driving home, I almost missed an exit – but luckily, Kakashi pointed in time to the upcoming one."

Kakashi takes pride in helping with chores: folding laundry, starting and emptying the dishwasher, and keeping things tidy. He stays organized by knowing his plan for the day and using his calendar and written lists. Though he is non-verbal and uses a talking device, he is easily understood by those around him, and he understands the things going on in his world.

His caring adult shares that Kakashi needs a forever family that is patient and understanding and willing to allow time for a positive transition. She believes a two-parent family would be best.

"He does well with other kids," she adds, "so a sibling or two of any age would be fine.

"He has had a rough go of it. He's kind and persistent, and he works hard to adapt to his situation.He needs someone who is there every day and who can do fun things with him, who accepts him for who he is and will always be there for him."

In return, a family who welcomes Kakashi will be blessed with the joy of euphoric bike rides, the relaxing peace of watching flags flowing in the breeze, the hilarity of a game of fetch with the family dog, and the warmth of a loving and loyal heart.
