Former Vice President Kamala Harris will campaign with Democratic Senate hopeful Abdul El-Sayed in Michigan next Tuesday.
It's unclear exactly where the event will happen, but a spokesperson told the Associated Press the two would discuss Black maternal health and healthcare costs.
"Vice President Harris looks forward to returning to Michigan to help turn out the vote in this critical state," Harris spokesperson Eduardo Negrón told the outlet. "It is critical we flip the Senate so we can bring down prices and stand up to Donald Trump's corruption."
El-Sayed, a doctor, is the former head of health departments in Detroit and Wayne County. He told Politico on Wednesday that he looks forward to the event with Harris, saying people in communities like Detroit "look up to [her] as an inspirational leader."
The event comes as El-Sayed faces one of the most competitive Senate races in the country this year against former Rep. Mike Rogers.
It also comes just after Rogers declined to participate in a debate with El-Sayed, hosted by Fox 2 Detroit on Tuesday.
"Last week, Mike Rogers took the time to go to Dallas to give a speech at a convention held in the interest of Donald Trump, but he didn't have the time to spend an hour with us here in Detroit," El-Sayed said at the start of the televised forum.
Rogers accused the moderator, Roop Raj, of showing bias toward El-Sayed (a claim that Raj has denied) in a Detroit News interview.
The Senate seat is currently held by Democrat Gary Peters, who is not seeking re-election.
