2 Charged With Terrorism After Threatening MI Elected Officials: AG

Two Detroit area residents are in trouble after threatening elected Michigan officials, according to the state's attorney general.

Alicia Choucair, 33, of Roseville, was charged with two counts of false report or threat of terrorism (each a 20-year felony), one count of using a computer to commit a crime (20-year felony) and one count of hate crime (2-year felony).

She was placed in jail with a $20,000 bond. Her next court date is scheduled for Sept. 30.

Officials said Choucair the local dispatch threatening violence against a mosque and Mayor Abdullah Hammoud, saying if "your people" weren't kept out of her town.

Anthony Dekinderen, 61 of Lake Orion, was charged with nine counts of false report or threat of terrorism (each a 20-year felony).

He was placed in jail with a $5 million bond. His next court date is scheduled for Sept. 28.

Officials said Dekinderen emailed a Michigan-based journalist with threats to kill the Michigan Supreme Court, Governor Gretchen Whitmer and Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson.

"Thousands of Michigan residents answer the call to serve through elected office, be it as the local mayor or in statewide office. Unfortunately, hate crimes and threats of terrorism against officials at all levels of government are becoming increasingly common," Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel said. "Let these charges serve as a warning that Michigan takes threats of violence very seriously and will prosecute these cases to the fullest extent of the law."
