MACKINAW CITY, MI — A strong wind gust pushed over a trailer carrying canoes on the Mackinac Bridge over the weekend, according to police.
The incident happened at 11:12 p.m. Saturday in the northbound lanes on the bridge, according to police.
A pickup truck was pulling the trailer with eight canoes when the strong winds pushed over the trailer, according to police.
The canoes came to a rest against the bridge railing, according to police.
Troopers helped keep the driver and his dog safe and warm inside the patrol car while waiting for more help to arrive, according to police.
George's Towing from St. Ignace responded and was able to pull the trailer back onto the road and upright again, without losing a single canoe, according to police.
To help keep the trailer from tipping over again, the tow truck stayed attached while the trooper escorted everyone to the north side of the bridge, according to police.
Michigan State Police
Police said there were no injuries in the incident.
