Gas prices are rising again across Michigan, according to AAA.
The average price for a gallon of gas across Michigan was $4.82 for a regular gallon of gas Monday, up 32 cents from last week, according to AAA.
That is also up $1.75 from this time last year, according to AAA.
Gas prices are even higher in the metro Detroit area. The average cost for a regular gallon of gas in the metro area was $4.87 Monday, according to AAA.
That's up 34 cents from last week and $1.87 from this time last year, according to AAA.
Part of the sharp increase is due to regional refinery issues in Joliet, Illinois, according to Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy.
Illinois, Ohio and Wisconsin also saw gas price increases.
De Haan said he expects gas prices to remain high through election day, though "states have moved to cut fuel taxes and the Trump administration has pulled virtually every lever available."
