Police said the 62-year-old man from the Calumet was in the area of Black Rocks at Presque Isle Park in Marquette around 2:53 p.m. Thursday.

Investigators believe the lake's high waves swept the man into the water.

Officials said search crews couldn't immediately search for the man because lake conditions were too rough at the time.

The Lakewood Lane area is roughly seven miles from Presque Isle Park.

Officials did not release the man's name.

Police asked the public to avoid areas near the lake during inclement weather due to hazardous conditions that can change in seconds.
