'This Can’t Be Real': MI Woman Wins $1M From Scratch-Off Ticket

A St. Clair County woman won a $1 million from a scratch-off ticket, according to the Michigan Lottery.

The lucky 76-year-old player, who chose to remain anonymous, bought her Deluxe Cash ticket at the Kroger store, located at 66900 Gratiot Avenue in Richmond, which is roughly 25 miles southwest of Port Huron.

ST. CLAIR COUNTY, MI — A St. Clair County woman won a $1 million from a scratch-off ticket, according to the Michigan Lottery.

The lucky 76-year-old player, who chose to remain anonymous, bought her Deluxe Cash ticket at the Kroger store, located at 66900 Gratiot Avenue in Richmond, which is roughly 25 miles southwest of Port Huron.

"Every time I buy Lottery tickets, I buy $20 worth, so I purchased two $1,000,000 Deluxe Cash tickets on my way out of Kroger," the lucky player said. "I scratched the tickets when I got in my car, and when I saw I’d won $1 million, I thought to myself: ‘This can’t be real!’"

The lucky player said she took the ticket back into the grocery store to have it scanned.

"When I got a message to file a claim at the Lottery office, I knew it was real!," the lucky player said. "I have looked at the ticket every day since I won to make sure I’m not just seeing things."

She chose to receive her prize as a one-time lump sum payment of about $693,000 rather than annuity payments for the full amount, according to lottery officials.

With her winnings, she plans to pay bills and then save the remainder, according to lottery officials.

"This prize is going to provide a nice financial cushion for me and my husband," the lucky player said.
