Cedar Point's Top Thrill 2 Opens This Weekend

SANDUSKY, OH — Thrill-seekers rejoice, the wait is finally over!

Cedar Point's reimagined Top Thrill Dragster roller coaster is unlike anything you've seen, and it opens to the public Saturday, which is the amusement park’s opening day.

Top Thrill 2 is said to be the world’s tallest and fastest triple-launch strata roller coaster, which includes a 420-foot-tall vertical spike tower in addition to the existing "top hat" tower that also stands 420-foot-tall.

The new thrill ride, designed by Zamperla Rides, will run three high-performance racing vehicles with open-air seating for 20 riders.

The first launch sends riders 74 miles per hour toward the top hat, but up only about halfway, before it rollbacks into a 101 mile per hour backward launch, sending riders nearly 400 feet up the new spike.

Then, the coaster falls down at a 90-degree angle into the third launch, which sends riders 120 miles per hour up over the top-hot tower and down into a 270-degree spiral toward the finish line.

Cedar Point officials believe the new coaster's popularity may surpass that of Steel Vengeance which debuted in 2018. Fast Lane Plus will allow riders only one Fast Lane ride per day, and any subsequent rides must wait in the regular line.
