Drunken Driver Crashes Into MI Gas Station: Police

ISABELLA COUNTY, MI — A drunken driver was arrested early Monday after crashing into a gas station in Isabella County, according to Michigan State Police.

The crash happened at 1:55 a.m. Monday at the EZ Mart gas station in Weidman, according to police.

A trooper was fueling her patrol car when she saw a red pickup truck moving erratically through the gas station parking lot, according to police.

The truck nearly hit two diesel fuel pumps, the fully marked patrol vehicle and the trooper before swerving toward the convenience store building, according to police.

The pickup crashed into the building and moved far enough to hit the coolers located in the back of the business, according to police.

The driver, a 63-year-old Weidman man, was arrested for suspected impaired driving. He was placed in the Isabella County Jail.

There were no injuries in the crash.

"This incident is a reminder that impaired driving can turn a routine trip into a potentially life-threatening situation in a matter of seconds. If you’ve been drinking, don’t drive. Find a sober ride, call someone you trust, or make other arrangements. It’s not worth the risk," police said in a statement.
