Tornadoes, Flooding, Strong Winds Could Hit MI Thursday

METRO DETROIT — Severe thunderstorms are expected to hit southeastern Michigan on Thursday, bringing damaging winds, large hail and possibly even a tornado, according to the National Weather Service.

Forecasters warned some storms could bring heavy rainfall causing localized flooding, 1-inch hail, wind gusts up to 60 miles per hour and even a possible tornado to the region.

"A slight risk for severe thunderstorms exists Thursday for areas mainly south of M-59. Damaging winds and large hail to 1" diameter looking to be the main threats. Storms may develop as scattered cells before transitioning into a squall line," the weather service said on Twitter.
Forecasters placed southeastern Michigan in the slight risk category, level 2 out of 5, meaning conditions are for favorable for "short-lived or not widespread, isolated intense storms."

The severe weather and thunderstorms should fade away sometime during the nighttime hours Thursday, according to the National Weather Service.
