Gas Prices Surging In MI, Jumping 17 Cents From Last Week: AAA
Gas prices in Michigan sharply increased Monday for the sixth straight day, AAA said.
MICHIGAN — Gas prices are rising again in Michigan, jumping 17 cents across the state and 14 cents in the Metro Detroit area from last week, according to AAA.
Motorists across the state paid an average of $3.97 for a gallon of regular gas, while drivers in the Metro Detroit area paid $4.05 on Monday morning, according to AAA.
Gas prices in Michigan and Metro Detroit had been declining for the past several months after setting record highs in June, but now have been increasing for the past six days, pushing averages well above the national average, which is $3.72, according to AAA.

Overall, Michiganders can expect to pay an average of $59 for a full 15-gallon tank of gas, about $8 higher than last year's highest price, which was recorded in November, according to AAA.
One of the reasons for the recent spike in gas prices across Michigan is due to a Wednesday fire at a Toledo refinery that killed two workers and forced the facility to shut down. It remains unclear when the factory will open back up.
