North Country National Scenic Trail – Lowell
Roughly a quarter of the 4,600-mile path rests in Michigan, offering stunning views of Lake Superior and spectral lake views throughout the Lower Peninsula. Difficulty: level varies.
Michigan’s Iron Belle Trail – Detroit
When completed, the trail will become one of the nation's longest state trails, stretching from Detroit’s Belle Isle Park up through the Mackinac Bridge and west until it reaches the Upper Peninsula town of Ironwood. Difficulty: level varies.

Greenstone Ridge Trail – Isle Royale National Park
The 43-mile trail takes you through Isle Royale National Park, one of the least-visited national parks because it is on a remote island. The trail offers stunning views of Lake Superior, white pine forests and granite outcroppings. Difficulty: hard.
Lakeshore-North Country Trail – Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore
Deemed the "picture-perfect route" by Pure Michigan, the route takes you by Au Sable Light Station, alongside Chapel Rock and Spray and Bridalveil Falls. Difficulty: moderate.
Pyramid Point Trail – Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore
This route is deemed the most beautiful of the many Sleeping Bears Dunes trails. The 3-mile trek passes through wildflower-strewn meadows and forests of paper birch through and over rolling sand dunes. A short spur leads out to a breathtaking Lake Michigan overlook. Difficulty: moderate.
