Here Are MI's Top 10 Safest Cities, Study Says

According to the study, exactly half of Michiganders say they feel safe in the state​.

A new study examines the safest cities in every state in the country. The rankings from Safewise "are intended to highlight cities with low per capita crime and ignite conversation and action around how to make all cities and communities safer."

In Michigan, the analysis found that the safest community is Kinross Township in Chippewa County.

"Everyone wants to feel safe at home," Safewise wrote. "Whether you're checking in on your current city or scouting out a new one, we've crunched the numbers on crime rates across the country."

The violent crime rate in Michigan is 5.57 incidents per 1,000 people, which is higher than the national average of 4.43. That number is also slightly higher from 2024 when it was 5.1.

Property crime in The Great Lakes State has also increased in recent years, rising from 15.7 incidents per 1,000 people in 2024 to 18.13 incidents. But that number is still lower than the national property crime rate of 22.89.

The number one way Michiganders protect their property is with security cameras at 47 percent followed by security systems at 32 percent and then firearm at 30 percent.

According to the study, exactly half of Michiganders say they feel safe in the state. This is down from 52 percent the previous year.
