'Historic' MI Spring Snowstorm Dumps 20 Inches In Upper Peninsula
A May snowstorm pummeled parts of the Michigan's Upper Peninsula with nearly two feet of snow Tuesday, according to meteorologists.
MICHIGAN — A May snowstorm pummeled parts of Michigan's Upper Peninsula with nearly two feet of snow Tuesday, according to AccuWeather forecasters.
Most areas in the Upper Peninsula saw at least a foot of fresh snow, with the highest totals accumulating in the Marquette area, where forecasters said 19.7 inches of fresh snow fell Tuesday. The total smashes the previous record for May snowfall in the region, which was 5.4 inches in 2019.
Forecasters said other areas, such as the Ishpeming region, which is about 15 miles west of Maquette, saw roughly 18 inches of fresh snow. The region, especially in higher elevated areas can an additional 6 to 10 inches of fresh snow through Tuesday afternoon, the weather service said.

A winter storm warning was still in effect for several counties, including Keweenaw, Northern Houghton, Baraga, Marquette, Alger, Ontonagon and Gogebic. The warning is in effect until 2 p.m. Tuesday.
"Snow continues this morning, heaviest across the northcentral highlands," officials at the Marquette weather service said. "Snow will then quickly diminish this afternoon and will end in most areas by late afternoon."
