GREEN CHARTER TOWNSHIP, MI — A man was arrested Saturday in Mecosta County after crashing a graduation party with a machete, according to Michigan State Police.

Troopers said a man used a machete to break the glass of the front door at the Green Charter Township Hall, located at 21431 Northland Drive, where a graduation party was being held at 2 p.m. Saturday.

The man began waving a machete and making threatening statements, such as "everyone was going to hell," according to police.

Three partygoers confronted the machete-wielding man and used a chair to keep their distance and force the man out of the building, according to police.

The machete-wielding man then drove away from the hall before officers arrived at the township hall, according to police.

He later drove onto the lawn of the Mecosta County Sheriff's Office, where threatened an officer with the machete, according to police.

Officers then arrested the machete-wielding man in connection with the incident, according to police.

The 36-year-old Hersey man was placed in the Mecosta County Jail on multiple, pending felony charges, according to police.

There were no injuries in the incident, according to police.
