Man Arrested In U.P. Arson, Shooting At Police Cars: MSP

The 39-year-old Florida man was arrested after he was injured in a shooting with officers in the Sault Ste. Marie area​, officials said.

SAULT STE. MARIE, MI — A man was arrested Thursday in connection to setting multiple police cars on fire in the Upper Peninsula, according to Michigan State Police.

The 39-year-old Florida man was arrested after he was injured in a shooting with officers who were executing a search warrant at about 2 p.m. at a property on Riverside Dr. in the Sault Ste. Marie area, officials said.

The shooter was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, officials said.

No officers were injured in the shooting, officials said.

Troopers said around 3:30 a.m., a man wearing camouflage set multiple police vehicles on fire and fired rounds from a rifle at the vehicles that were parked at the Sault Ste. Marie post, which is located off the Interstate 75 Business Spur near 3 Mile Road.

The man then drove away from the scene in a silver Honda CRV, police said.

No injuries were reported as no troopers were inside any of the vehicles at the time of the incident, police said.

Police were still investigating the shooting and arson, and said officials planned to bring maximum charges.
