Massive Bread Recall Hits MI: Here's Why, What To Know

Focaccia bread sold in Michigan and nine other states is being recalled due to possible metal fragments, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

North Carolina-based Bakkavor issued the voluntary, company-initiated recall that affects 23,459 cases of bread.

The recall is classified as Class II, which means "exposure to a violative product may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences or where the probability of serious adverse health consequences is remote," according to the FDA.

"The firm discovered metal fragments in various bread products," the FDA said. "They determined the cause to be roasted tomatoes provided by one of their ingredient suppliers."

In addition to Michigan, the product was also shipped to Arizona, California, Connecticut, Florida, Illinois, North Carolina, New Jersey, Texas and Virginia.
