MI Boy Uses Slingshot To Save Sister From Would-Be​ Kidnapper: Police

A 13-year-old Michigan boy saved his younger sister from a would-be​ teenage kidnapper, according to police.

ALPENA, MI — A 13-year-old Michigan boy saved his younger sister from a would-be kidnapper Wednesday by using a slingshot, according to Michigan State Police.

Police said the 8-year-old girl was hunting mushrooms in the backyard at her home in Alpena when a man came out of the woods, grabbed her and covered her mouth.

The girl's 13-year-old brother saw the incident and shot the would-be kidnapper in the head and chest with a slingshot, police said.

Family members saw the kidnapper running away from the home and described him to police. Troopers then found a 17-year-old boy hiding at a nearby gas station with visible wounds to the head and chest from slingshot projectiles, police said.

Troopers arrested the 17-year-old and charged him as an adult with one count of attempted kidnapping/child enticement, one count of attempted assault to do great bodily harm less than murder and one count of assault and battery.

Officials said the suspect told troopers during questioning that he planned to severely beat the girl.

The teen was placed at the Alpena County Jail with a bond set at $150,000 and his next court date was scheduled for Wednesday, May 17. Officials did not release his name.
