MI Gas Prices Jump 20 Cents Overnight Amid U.S.-Iran Conflict: AAA

Michigan gas prices jumped 20 cents overnight amid rising Middle Eastern tensions, according to AAA.

Gas prices across Michigan climbed to $4.23 for a regular gallon of gas on Wednesday, up eight cents from a month ago and more than a dollar from this time last year, according to AAA.

Prices also jumped in the Detroit area. The average price for a regular gallon of gas in the metro area was $4.21 Wednesday morning, up ten cents from yesterday, according to AAA.

The spike in gas prices comes amid a worsening U.S.-Iran conflict.

Iran on Wednesday said it attacked 10 ships around the Strait of Hormuz after the U.S. sunk five Iranian tankers. The U.S. has blockaded Iranian ports and has enacted economic sanctions.

The escalating conflict has pushed the price of oil over $100 a barrel for the first time since July.
