MI Gas Prices Jump 32 Cents Overnight, Up 71 Cents From Last Week: AAA

Gas prices across Michigan are approaching new all-time records, according to AAA.

Gas prices across Michigan jumped 32 cents overnight, according to AAA.

The average price for a regular gallon of gas across Michigan on Thursday was $4.58, which is 71 cents higher than last week, according to AAA.

In the metro Detroit area, the average for a regular gallon of gas was $4.54, up 68 cents from last week, according to AAA.

The spike is due to refinery issues stemming from the war in Iran and the conflict in the Strait of Hormuz, Patrick De Haan of Gas Buddy said.

"Gas prices in Michigan, Indiana, Ohio, Illinois and Wisconsin are now at their highest levels since summer 2022, and are approaching new all-time records," he said.

The highest recorded average price for a regular gallon of gas in Michigan was $5.22, which was set in the summer of 2022, according to AAA.
