MI Gas Prices Rose Higher Than Any Other State In Last Week: AAA

The state's average for a regular gallon of gas rose 56 cents in the last week, according to AAA.​

MICHIGAN — Michigan's gas prices rose more than any other state in the past week, making for one of the highest averages in the country, according to AAA.

The state's average for a gallon of gas rose 56 cents in the last week, setting another record high average of $5.17 for a gallon of regular gas Tuesday morning, according to AAA.

Michigan now has the highest statewide average in any Midwestern state except for Illinois and the tenth-highest average in the country, according to AAA.

Gas prices in metro Detroit also rose 50 cents from last week, setting a new record Tuesday morning at $5.23, according to AAA.

Federal officials believe peak gas prices may still be ways off, since demand is rising. In other words, officials don't believe prices will come down anytime soon.

"People are still fueling up, despite these high prices," AAA spokesperson Andrew Gross said in a Monday news release from the company. "At some point, drivers may change their daily driving habits or lifestyle due to these high prices, but we are not there yet."
