A man was fatally shot by troopers Sunday in Northern Michigan, according to Michigan State Police.

TRAVERSE CITY, MI — A man was fatally shot by troopers Sunday in Northern Michigan, according to Michigan State Police.
Kalkaska County Sheriff deputies were called Saturday to a home in Fife Lake on reports of a domestic assault, police said.
When officers arrived at the home, the man had fled the area, police said.

A man was seen on a neighboring property’s trail camera about a mile away the next day on Sunday, police said.
The neighbor, who does not live in the area, had asked another neighbor in the area to check on the security of his trailer, police said.

When the neighbor drove to the trailer, an exited the trailer and fired a gun into the air, police said.
The neighbor then called police, and a conservation officer from the Michigan Department of Natural Resources and a sheriff’s deputy saw the man run into the woods, police said.
When the two officials chased after the man, they heard gunfire and took cover, police said.
Michigan State Police troopers then used a K-9 and a drone, which led them to an enclosed tree stand, police said.
Once officials found the man, police said there was a confrontation, which resulted in troopers fatally shooting the man, police said.
Investigators recovered a loaded gun from the tree stand, police said.
No further information was released.
Police were still investigating the shooting.
